July 19th. Wednesday, 1-3pm. Blue Ridge Center for Lifelong Learning. Two hour presentation on southern Appalachian culture, the Blue Ridge Parkway, and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, with focus on photos and stories from all five of Mr. Barnwell's books. Contact Blue Ridge Community College to enroll ($20 for members, $30 for non-members)
August 4, 2017. Friday 11 am-4 pm. Grovewood Gallery. Book signing for Great Smoky Mountains Vistas book and other titles. Gallery is located adjacent to the Grove Park Inn in north Asheville. It houses a fantastic craft gallery and one of the best furniture galleries in the South. Also a great antique car museum (small fee) and craft studios to tour. Event is free and open to the public.

January 23rd, 2016. Saturday, 11:00 am. Mr. Barnwell will give a talk at the Booth Museum of Western Art in Cartersville, GA as part of the "Ansel Adams: Before and After" exhibit. The one hour seminar, with fellow photographer Jay Dusard from Arizona, will cover how each photographs indigenous people: Mr. Barnwell about Appalachian subjects and Mr. Dusard about his work with cowboys of the west. The seminar is at 11am and is open to the public (small fee).The museum is the largest devoted to western art in the country. Details on the Adams exhibit, which includes two images by Mr. Barnwell, and the various day-long series of seminars can be found on the museums website.

May 22, 2016. Sunday. Mr. Barnwell will be signing books at Chimney Rock State Park from 1-4 pm as part of their 3rd Annual Writers on the Rock day. The park press release states, “Nine renowned authors who have written about the Appalachian outdoors will gather at Chimney Rock at Chimney Rock State Park to autograph books, give presentations and be available for one-on-one chats with fans. A range of books by each author will be available for sale at a table manned by event sponsor Fountainhead Bookstore of Hendersonville. Writers on the Rock is included with Park admission, which is $13 for adults, $6 for youth ages 5-15 and free for children ages 4 and under." Mr. Barnwell will be signing The Face of Appalachia, On Earth's Furrowed Brow, Hands in Harmony, and Blue Ridge Parkway Vistas books. Drop by and meet all the authors!
June 10-11, 2016. Book signings at Craggy Gardens Visitor Center on the Blue Ridge Parkway on Saturday, June 11 from 1-4pm and on Sunday, June 12 at the main Visitor Center on the Blue Ridge Parkway in Asheville from 10am-1pm. Mr. Barnwell will be on hand to talk with folks about his Blue Ridge Parkway Vistas book and sign copies. Great Fathers Day gift.
July 20th, 2016. Wednesday 5:30-7 pm at The Bascom in Highlands. Mr. Barnwell will present his work on Appalachia featuring images and stories from his book projects, The Face of Appalachia, On Earth's Furrowed Brow, and Hands in Harmony. July 21st, 2016. Thursday. Land of Waterfalls Camera Club sponsored talk by Mr. Barnwell. Free and open to the public. Mr. Barnwell will speak on the Blue Ridge Parkway and his book, Blue Ridge Parkway Vistas as well as his Appalachian series of documentary work from his books The Face of Appalachia, On Earth's Furrowed Brow, and Hands in Harmony. Transylvania County Parks and Recreation Center from 7-9 pm.
August 23, 2016. Tuesday 4-5pm. Mr. Barnwell will present his talk on the Blue Ridge Parkway and his Blue Ridge Parkway Vistas book at the Fontana Regional Library at 249 Frank Allen Rd. in Cashiers, NC. It is a free talk and open to the public. He will discuss the history of the Parkway, its route through Virginia and North Carolina, attractions worth visiting, favorite overlooks, and how he completed the mountain peak identifications (including one of Cashiers Valley) used in the book. The new, Great Smoky Mountains Vistas book will be explored briefly as well.
August 25, 2016. Mr. Barnwell will be a guest on the WUNC radio program "The State of Things" on Thursday, August 25th. The program will be about the 100th Anniversary of the National Park System. It will be broadcast in western North Carolina on WCQS-FM from 12 noon-1pm, then available as a podcast. Mr. Barnwell will talk about his photography background, Appalachian-themed work, and two Vistas books related to the national parks.

September 29, 2016. Our Appalachian Home course at OLLI/UNC-Asheville. Part of annual Appalachian Sampler course series. Mr. Barnwell, and Richard Dillingham of Mars Hill University, will speak on Appalachian culture as part of this 8 week class. Course is currently filled with over 100 participants but waiting list is available. Contact OLLI and UNC-Asheville for details.

October 4-7, 2016. Wild Acres Retreat Photo Workshop. Mr. Barnwell will be a guest instructor for a workshop to be held at Wildacres Retreat in Little Switzerland near the Blue Ridge Parkway from October 4-7th. Twelve images from The Face of Appalachia, On Earth's Furrowed Brow, and Hands in Harmony books with oral history interview text panels. Shown are farm, music, and craft-themed images with women as the focus. Show has ended.
January-May, 2015. Mountain Heritage Center, Western Carolina University, Cullowhee, NC. Hands in Harmony: Traditional Music and Crafts in Appalachia photographic exhibit. Thirty images with accompanying oral history text panels. Check with Mountain Heritage Center for hours. This will be their final exhibit in this facility before a two-year remodeling project begins. Talk and book signing will be scheduled in April.

Newark Museum of Art, Newark, NJ. “Seeing Beyond the Moment: The Photographic Legacy and Gifts of George Tice.” Two prints exhibited (Tice gifts of Barnwell prints to museum). Attended opening reception, September 17th. Also attended opening of Tice show at Nailya Alexander Gallery in Manhattan September 18th. Both events part of his 75th birthday series of exhibits around the country. Barnwell image, “Collie Payne & Berry in tobacco field,” used in New York Times and numerous regional newspaper articles about exhibit.
October 1-Dec. 31, 2016. Lumiere Gallery. Atlanta, GA. Southern Culture themed photography exhibit. Mr. Barnwell's images from Appalachia and the SC/GA coastal towns from Charleston, SC, to Brunswick, GA, focusing on Charleston and Savannah.
Three traveling exhibits, each containing thirty images and accompanying text panels from the books, The Face of Appalachia, On Earth's Furrowed Brow, and Hands in Harmony, are available to galleries, schools, and museums. The exhibits combine 11 x 14 inch (framed to 16 x 20) and 16 x20 inch (framed to 20x24) images. The photographs are ready to hang, with companion text panels mounted on foam core board, making the exhibits complete and easy to install.
The prints are shipped (or delivered depending on venue) in three wooden crates and can be sent via Federal Express Ground or UPS. Contact us for fees and expenses.
